Sound Design

In our third mini series on behind the scenes, we focus on SOUND Design!!  This is such a crucial aspect of any show as without proper sound design and technicians, no on can properly hear what's being spoken or sung- which means the audience misses the story!  Sound can often be one area that struggling theaters have to do without, but we are blessed to have some great equipment resources and trainers, as well as two very talented teenagers who have taken an extreme interest in Sound Design.  Jillian and Julia Swett commit many hours to numerous school and community productions to share their talents in sound.  Jillian started working years ago on sound with various designers including Jack Finley, Jordan Tankard and now Wayne Fajans who all brought their own knowledge and background.  Julia has jumped on board recently and as her older sister graduates, we are blessed that the talent is being passed down!  These girls have learned how to set up all of the equipment that you see in the photos, as well as how to properly attach and utilize the body mics on the actors.  Covid has added a further layer to their work in needing to balance sound with masks!!  Sound Design requires knowing and studying the script, attending rehearsals for a sense of the production overall, planning and discussing cues with the rest of the production team, rehearsing and ensuring all cues are accurate, and then balancing the levels of all the sounds including voices, background music, accompaniment, sound effects or a live band.  Our talented teens have learned all of these aspects and are an amazing resource to our local theater groups.  We love sharing knowledge in all the technical areas of theater as well as performance.  Enjoy some photos of our talented Sound Artists at work!!  https://docs.google.com/docume...
