Students in Ashli Craft’s art class created Book Sculptures this month. The project allowed students to learn and practice different paper techniques to turn a flat object into a three dimensional piece of art.

One of our commitments in the Portrait of a Franklin Graduate is resourcefulness, and this project certainly demonstrates that in multiple ways. First, the books were in the discard pile from the library, taken out of rotation because they were outdated, under circulated in the last few years or really banged up. Second, students had a limited amount of supplies and tools to use…they were given hot glue and xacto knives to aid in their design. Finally, they had to use their creativity to make their design ideas reality. Here are a few examples of their creations.
