Creativity through Makerspace at FMS!!

The Franklin School District and the new Franklin Makerspace organization collaborated to provide some unique and creative opportunities for the students at Franklin Middle School!  After numerous meeting, discussing and planning, the FMS after school Culinary and Woodworking sessions began in the late fall for a group of 32 students.  Parents and students were notified of the opportunity and were able to sign up for either or both program.  In order to provide as many students as possible with the amazing experience, 32 students were assigned to session 1 and 32 more students were assigned to the session 2 which will begin in April.  There is a limit of 16 students for each program and they spend an hour and a half after school, three days a week learning the art of either culinary or woodworking skills.  In both programs, students learned how to use tools and machinery, worked on math and measurement skills, were able to creatively design and choose what they wished to create, and were able to bring home finished projects to share with their families.  The overall response and impact on these students was so positive and we look forward to seeing what session 2 will bring for our middle school students.
