Good Morning Franklin Families, I am writing to you today to update you on where we are with changing the schools start and end times for the 21/22 school year. After surveying our families earlier this year and answering the questions that were submitted from the survey, I will be recommending the changes below at the School Board meeting on Monday night. Elementary School: Drop off 7:15 Instructional day start 7:40 Dismissal: 2:00 Middle School: Drop off 8:05 Instructional day start 8:25 Dismissal 3:05 High School: Drop off 8:10 Instructional day start 8:30 Dismissal 3:15 Based on the feedback we received from our survey, I am working with the Rec Center and the Boys and Girls Club to make sure we have quality child care available for our families that need it. We also are planning an after school tutoring program at the elementary school and a before school tutoring program at the middle school to address learning loss for students due to the pandemic. Please know that this change is supported by research and is being considered to assist in our efforts to improve student achievement in the Franklin School District. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me with questions or feedback. Sincerely, Dan LeGallo SAU 18 Superintendent

May 10, 2021 Dear PSS Families, I would like to thank everyone who has been patient and understanding during our dismissal process, which includes the long line and wait during parent pick-up. Hence, the reason for this announcement. Beginning Tuesday, May 11th, the front loop of the school will be for parent pick-up and the back loop will be the bus loop. This change will include both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Parents are asked to enter the school property via the front parking lot. We ask that parents picking up their child(ren) after school arrive using the following time frames. If you are picking up children in grades K & 1, please arrive beginning at 2:05 PM. If you have a child in grades 2 & 3, please arrive at the school for 2:20 PM. We are hoping the staggered approach will reduce the length of the line and your wait time. We continue to ask families to approach the school via Lawndale Ave. Once you have turned left onto Daniel Webster Drive, we ask that you pull off onto the gravel lane which parallels the road and wait in line off the pavement. The first few cars to arrive should pull into the school grounds and drive to the back of the parking lot to weave around to the stop sign. This is the same process we have used in the past. Our intent is to get as many of the vehicles off of the road as possible which has been creating a great deal of difficulty and concern for local residents. Please remember: If you drive or pick up your child from Paul Smith School, PLEASE approach the school via Lawndale Ave to Daniel Webster Drive both in the morning and the afternoon. During morning drop off and afternoon pick-up times, PLEASE do not access Daniel Webster Drive via North Main Street (Route 11). While you are waiting in line to pick up your child, please pay attention to your surroundings. Parents on cell phones create an unsafe environment for our children. It has also slowed the process due to inattention. Staff will be on duty to support families and students during both morning drop-off and afternoon student pick-up. We appreciate your support and cooperation during this change. Sincerely, Sue Blair, Principal

Good Morning Franklin Families, I was notified this morning of an incident that occurred after school yesterday involving a school bus. The bus was a Winnisquam bus that was dropping off the Franklin High School HUOT students at Franklin High School. A bowling ball crashed through the window of the bus while the driver was on the way back to dispatch. The driver was not injured and there were no students on the bus at the time. The incident is under investigation by the Franklin Police Department. Sincerely, Dan LeGallo SAU 18 Superintendent

Good Evening Franklin Families, I am reaching out to report that we have had 2 students at the middle school and 2 students at the high school test positive for Covid-19. The two middle school cases were expected based on prior contact tracing and no additional contact tracing was necessary due to the students being in quarantine. The two high school students have not been on campus recently so no close contacts were identified. We are all set for in-person learning at both schools tomorrow. Sincerely, Dan LeGallo SAU 18 Superintendent

Dear Franklin Families, I am reaching out to you today with a couple of updates. We had two reported student cases over the weekend, one at Franklin Middle School and one at Franklin High School. Contact tracing and notifications have been completed. I also wanted to inform you of the Governor's Order #89 requiring schools to open 5 days per week for in-person learning for families that want it by April 19th. We have accelerated our planning to meet this timeline. Additionally, we still will be offering fully remote learning to families that select this option. In order to accommodate students attending 5 days per week, students will have 3 ft. distancing in the classroom, masks will be worn at all times in the classrooms with scheduled mask breaks throughout the day, buses will run with up to 2 students per seat, and lunches will be served with 6 ft. social distancing. We have been collecting information from you regarding your student attending in-person or remotely since last week. If you would like to change your student's status from in-person to remote or remote to in-person based on this new information, please contact the school office. Please let me know if you have any questions, Sincerely, Dan LeGallo SAU 18 Superintendent

Good Morning Franklin Families, I am writing to you today to update you on our staff vaccination efforts. We have scheduled 2nd dose vaccinations for our staff on Tuesday, April 6th and Tuesday, April 13. We will have 60 plus staff members receiving vaccinations on each of these days. Several districts have run into issues with staff calling out sick the day after the administration of the second dose due to experiencing symptoms. This has led to either last minute closure of the schools or pivoting to remote status in the early morning hour before school starts. In order to avoid the confusion of this scenario, I am notifying you in advance that we will be fully remote at all 3 schools on Wednesday, April 7th and Wednesday, April 14th. The days will run similar to our remote Mondays with as many as our staff as possible providing on-line instruction. Staff that are unable to provide on-line instruction due to illness will provide assignments to students for the day. I wanted to give you advance notice of this so you could make the necessary arrangements for your students on those days. I appreciate your understanding as we work to complete the vaccination of our staff members. Sincerely, Dan LeGallo Superintendent dlegallo@gm.sau18.org
