From School Counselors Jennifer Campbell and Beth Harrington: On Friday April 8th Franklin Middle School held their first Career Fair in several years for all grades. We were thankful to have 15 different companies participate from the community. Students were able to go from booth to booth and learn about different career paths. It was nice to invite the community back into the schools and see students engage in hands-on learning.

On Friday, March 11th, the Pemi Middle Academy (grades 5 and 6) had the culminating event for their project, Tomb Raider. It was a performance task that required students to pretend they were Egyptian craftsmen. Their pharaoh's tomb had been raided and so they needed to create objects that would have been found in a pharaoh's tomb. These could have been everyday objects like a gameboard, amulets, hair comb, weapons etc. or a canopic jar (used to hold the mummified internal organs of the wealthy). In addition to making the artifact, students had to complete a written portion where they described their object and why they chose that particular object for their pharaoh.
On March 11th, grades 5 and 6 students assembled for a funerary procession from their wing at FMS to the library, with the 4th grade students standing on the sidelines to represent the Egyptians who would have watched such a procession. The library was decorated like an Egyptian tomb and students "presented" their object to their teacher, Michelle Davis. They stated their name and what they created for their pharoah. The projects were then left on display in the library in the form of a museum exhibit complete with museum placards to describe each object. On Friday, March 25, Proctor Academy English Teacher and Academic Concentrations Director Tom Morgan brought Proctor Students Thomas Berger, Josh Hou, Liam Murphy, Sierra Jean, and Carly Soloman (pictured here with Mr. Morgan and Mr. D) to FMS for the following project: "Committed to documenting and amplifying the community-building and urban revitalization efforts in Franklin, New Hampshire, Telling True Stories is an annual week-long, project-based learning workshop on 21st Century journalism taught by Proctor Academy creative nonfiction teacher Tom Morgan. In our recent five-day workshop, the 2022 Telling True Stories group—consisting of five Proctor Academy 9th and 10th graders—conducted 16 interviews, took over 500 pictures, and wrote a dozen stories about the revitalization efforts in Franklin. With a few exceptions, the first drafts of the articles published here on our Medium site were conceived of and written by Proctor Academy students during the workshop. After the workshop, Tom Morgan finished the final drafts, edited the articles for publication, and posted them here:" https://medium.com/@tellingtru/community-builder-spotlight-ken-darsney-c538e6a76774 Thank you Proctor for your amazing tribute to the Franklin School District and the Franklin Community!

Good Afternoon Franklin Families,
I am reaching out to tell you that I was notified yesterday afternoon that 2 students at the high school tested positive for Covid-19. Neither student was in school during the infective period so there were no close contacts.
Due to the dramatic drop in cases, the School Board has approved that we no longer collect and post our Covid Metrics that we have provided since September. I am hopeful that case counts will remain low and we will not have to revert back to collecting this information in the Fall. I will continue to notify you weekly of any positive cases in the District.
As always, I appreciate all of your support in assisting us in responding to the pandemic.
Sincerely,
Dan LeGallo
